Five specially selected letters from American election years, based on the BBC Radio 4 series ´Cooke´s Elections´. Starting with Truman´s surprise victory in 1948 and concluding with another surprise win, that of George W. Bush in 2000 - he comments on opinion polls, democracy, the difference between Democrats and Republicans, Bill Clinton´s fashion sense and what Clinton´s symbolic rejection of ´the blue blazer´ meant to the American political system. In each letter his unique style of expression and analysis shines through. Also includes an introduction by Justin Webb and links. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Alistair Cooke. Silk parachute pants. A gold lamé jumpsuit. Ankle boots with fringe. Were these fashion-forward items sending men running in the opposite direction? Maybe, but Leandra Medine never cared. Slipping into drop-crotch shorts and a boxed sequin blazer in the dressing room of Topshop in downtown Manhattan, a brokenhearted Leandra had an epiphany. Looking in the mirror, she suddenly realized she didn´t have a boyfriend because of the way she dressed. And the more she thought about it, the more she realized that such outfits said a lot about her life-romantic and otherwise. Now, in her first book, the acclaimed blogger and fashion darling recounts her most significant memories through the lens of her sartorial choices. With her signature sass, blunt honesty, and some personal photos, Leandra shares details of the night she lost her virginity right down to the pair of white tube socks she forgot to take off, as well as when and why she realized her grandma´s vintage Hermès ostrich skin clutch could hold much more than just keys and a cell phone. Through it all, she proves you don´t need to compromise even your most repellent qualities to find your way into that big white dress (and an organza moto jacket). See? You can have your yeti and wear it, too. Showcasing the singular voice that has won Leandra millions of fans, this book is a collection of awkwardly funny experiences, a sweet love story, and above all, a reminder to celebrate and embrace a world made for women, by women. 1. Seasons change, and so do fashion trends. But in this heartstring-tugging PsyCop short, what´s beneath the clothes matters most. Do clothes make the man? Jacob Marks cuts an impressive figure in his tailored suits, but Victor Bayne is another story. Nowadays, Vic does his ghosthunting in off-the-rack blazers, polyester blend slacks and cop shoes with nonskid soles. But back before he was a PsyCop - or even officially psychic - he rocked combat boots and a beat up biker jacket, and lots and lots of punk T-shirts. When he finds a faded tee in the back of a drawer, he´s eager to lob it in the trash. Jacob, however, finds himself waxing sentimental about Vic´s younger, more carefree days. This steamy 5000-word PsyCop short in Jacob´s voice takes place after PsyCop #6, GhosTV. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Gomez Pugh. Published in 1894 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of 11 different stories that center on the beloved character of Sherlock Holmes. The first of these stories is entitled ´´Silver Blaze´´, and chronicles Sherlock Holmes´ attempts to not only track down a race horse who has disappeared, but to find out who has murdered the horse´s trainer. As the stories progress, the details of various cases become more and more suspenseful, and Sherlock Holmes is called upon many times to investigate various crimes and mysterious occurrences. About halfway through the series, the famed Dr. Watson appears to help Sherlock Holmes in some of his crime-stopping and investigation efforts. Together, the two of them tackle theft, murder, and deception to create a truly unique series of tales. The culminating tale, which is appropriately entitled ´´The Final Problem´´, sees Sherlock Holmes having to avoid a variety of murder attempts on his life, as he comes practically face to face with his archnemesis Moriarty. In classic Sherlock Holmes fashion, the crime stopper then turns around and tries to bring justice to the situation, which will avenge all of the murder attempts and the threats that the man brought against him. 1.
